Storm U13 Ladies Off to a Great Start!

The scores don't do any justice to how this group of ladies hit the field for the first time this year!

First game was spent warming up and getting in to the groove against a skilled Kitchener team.  Sara Walsh kicked us off with a goal from the right side, across the net to the far post with assists from Ella-Christine Millar and Sydney Klauck!  We held off until the second half where Kitchener was able to tie it up and then step ahead until the final minute finishing the game with a 2-1 loss.

Our second game on Saturday was intense!  We came up against what was our greatest challenge to date.  Saltfleet was definitely a possession team with great passing and ball control.  Our Storm ladies were tough getting pretty banged up throughout the match but held their ground fiercely!  Both halves resulted in zero goals for either team.  New goalkeeper, Abi Benard, was on her toes making stellar save after save to keep us in the game.  At the end of regulation time we were instructed to proceed to sudden death penalty kicks.  Saltfleet was up first who found the back of the net.  Unfortunately, our shot was sent over the cross bar and we finished with a 1-0 loss for the books.  Nothing to be ashamed of here!!

Game 3 was under sunny clear blue skies on Sunday afternoon.  Perfect day for a soccer game!!  Matched up to play Dundas with two questionable injured players on the bench meant the field was going to have to step up.  They sure did!!  Challenged again by a skilled possession team, Storm held up every opportunity with the defensive line being an army in front of Abi Benard who again, stood on her head to keep that ball out of the net.  Injuries didn't stop these girls from fighting and holding off Dundas.  Receiving instruction from the referee to again prepare for sudden death shoot outs, Dundas scored with one minute remaining.

With the coaches beaming with pride and the girls feeling accomplished, we left it all on the field ready to take on the season!
